A recount date has been set in the Jefferson County Tax Assessor-Collector's race.
Incumbent Republican J. Shane Howard won re-election by 23 votes, defeating Democrat Thomas Sigee on election night, not including provisional ballots. The close election had the same outcome after provisional ballots were counted, but the margin had narrowed to 16 votes.
Last week Sigee presented the county with an $11,000 cashier's check to cover the cost and formally requested a recount because the race was so close.
On Monday, a recount date of November 26 was announced.
