Man lured to apartment and shot, police say

Posted: Updated:

Port Arthur police are trying to find out why a man was lured to an apartment and shot multiple times early Friday morning.

Officers say the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. at the Rampart Apartments at the corner of Gulfway Drive and Village East Boulevard.

Investigators say it appears the victim was lured to the entrance of an apartment by several suspects. At some point an altercation was started and the victim was shot.

The suspects tried to leave in the victim's car, but had trouble driving it because they did not know how to drive a standard. They abandoned the car and fled on foot.

The victim was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers say he was in serious but stable condition.

The name of the victim or possible suspects was not released by 8 a.m. Friday.
