Posted: Updated:

A Southeast Texas is awaiting trial after he was arrested for causing some $100,000 in damages after police say he vandalized gravestones at a cemetery.

Juan Alexander, 58, of Port Arthur, is charged with marking headstones and grave markers with the number 7 at Greenlawn Memorial Park located in the 3900 block of Twin City Highway. The markings cannot be removed.

Police say when they arrested Alexander for the crime back on October 5, he told them he had been drawn to the cemetery.

Alexander is charged with one count of mischief criminal felony.

Alexander was indicted by the Jefferson County Grand Jury on Thursday and is still in jail on a bond set at $20,000.

If found guilty of the crime, Alexander could face a two to 20 year sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
