Body found in LNVA Canal

Posted: Updated:

After three days of searching Beaumont police and firefighters believe they have found the body of 27-year-old Stephen Dvorman.

Police have discovered a body Monday afternoon they believe may be of a Warren man who has been missing since early Saturday morning.  Officers say Dvorman drove his truck off a bridge and plunged into the LNVA Canal.

Officers from the Beaumont Police Department and Fire and Rescue used boats equipped with sonar and ATVs in a continued search for Stephen Dvorman when they found a body floating in the water.

Officer Doug Kibodeaux says they can't positively identify the body as Dvorman until an autopsy is done but they believe it to be the 27-year-old.

The body was found about a mile away from where the accident happened.

Officer Kibodeaux said where the truck went into the water near the pump station, pumping about two million gallons of water per hour into the canal.

The searchers were working against a current in the canal so they continued their search down stream.

In the past the fire department has asked the pumping station to shut down while on a search but only when the current is too strong posing a danger to divers.

"This water feeds multiple businesses and communities to the south of us so we can't really stop the water at any time," said Brad Penisson with the fire department.

But now first responders only hope this can bring the family some closure.

Witnesses to the crash told police Dvorman appeared okay and was waving his hands communicating with them.

Witnesses say Dvorman was able to get out of the truck, but lost sight of him soon after.

Dvorman was a former marine who was enrolled in the fire academy at Lamar Institute of Technology.
