Orange woman arrested following Louisiana accident

Posted: Updated:

A woman from Orange is in a Louisiana jail following an accident that claimed the life of a Vidor man early Monday morning.

Shortly after 4 a.m. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a single-truck accident in the 1500 block of Wright Road in Vinton. When deputies arrived they talked to the driver of the truck, identified as Devon D. Courmier, 23, of Orange. Deputies say they detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath.

Investigators say they believe the truck was heading northbound on Wright Road and appeared to have run off the road to the right and hit a tree.

Courmier and passenger, David Kurdupski, 24, of Vidor, were taken to a Louisiana hospital where Kurdupski died as a result of his injuries.

Courmier, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, was treated and released from the hospital. She was then arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with vehicular homicide; DWI 1st; and careless operation.
