A Kountze man is sentenced to three 10-year sentences for an accident in which prosecutors say he was driving drunk and hit a grandfather and two children.

James Benton Williford, 62, of Kountze, entered the guilty pleas Thursday to charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to 12News HD file stories, officers say Williford was driving while intoxicated on December 2, 2011 when he passed a school bus that was unloading children on FM 418 near Mill Creek. His car struck two children and a grandfather who was escorting them across the road.

The Grandfather was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.  One of the children was treated and released the same day.  A first grader had to be taken to the UTMB pediatric unit in Galveston.

All three sentences will be served concurrently. Williford must serve at least 5 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
