Kountze Cheerleaders make sign for Friday's game

Posted: Updated:

The Kountze cheerleaders continued their fight Tuesday, making their run-through banner for Friday night's game against Woodville.

The cheerleaders painted the sign Tuesday afternoon.  It reads "and let us run with endurance the race God has set before us."

Monday night, the school board met in executive session to discuss the temporary restraining order allowing the cheerleaders to continue using these signs.  However, the two-week order ends this Thursday and the game in which this latest banner would be used is Friday.

On Thursday, a hearing will be held in Judge Steve Thomas' courtroom. Judge Thomas will decide whether to extend the temporary restraining order. If he grants an extension, the cheerleaders can continue to use their religious banners. If he doesn't, the cheerleaders will not be allowed to use the religious sign at Friday's game.

The cheerleaders and their attorney are hopeful the judge will rule in their favor.

The board members and Superintendent were issued subpoenas last week ordering them to attend Thursday's hearing.
