Posted: Updated:

Port Arthur police have made an arrest in an auto-pedestrian accident that killed a woman and injured a man who was with her.  A police spokesperson says the arrest was made around 3 a.m. Saturday in Nederland.

Witnesses say just before 7 p.m. Friday a man and woman were passing out flyers at homes in the 3700 block of 99th Avenue in Port Arthur.  As the two walked along the roadway they were both hit by a passing vehicle.

Investigators who took witness statements say the driver stopped briefly, then fled without attempting to render aid to the injured.

The man and woman were taken to different hospitals by ambulance.  The woman, identified by police as Beverly Henderson, 61, of Port Arthur, died from her injuries.  The man, whose name has not been released, was listed in stable condition at the hospital.

The Port Arthur Police Department Advanced Accident team was able to get information about the vehicle.  They found it a short while later.  The vehicle was seized by police as part of the investigation.

Evidence found by investigators led to Saturday's arrest.

As of 7 p.m. Sunday evening the name of the person arrested had not been released.
