A 34-year-old man is facing five counts of attempted capital murder after officers say he fired at police who were serving drug warrants.

A Jefferson County Grand Jury handed up the five counts against Edward Charles Crathin on Thursday.

According to 12NewsNow.Com file stories, Crathin is one of three people who were taken into custody following an incident in which shots were fired at officers last month.

During the incident, police arrested Joshua Harrison, 30, on drug charges. He was arrested at a home located near Magnolia and East Lucas. Following his arrest, officers went to a second location to serve a warrant as part of the same investigation.

When officers arrived at the second location, a home in the 1900 block of Ives Street in north Beaumont, shots were fired at them from inside the home.

Officers say David Buck, 39, and Edward Crathin ran out of the house. Buck was quickly arrested on the lawn of a neighboring house. Crathin made it to a home on Elder Street where police say he hid inside the attic. Officers found him within minutes and took him into custody.

Police say they found a handgun and an assault rifle inside the house on Ives Street. They also found cocaine.

Crathin is also held on a non-related outstanding warrant for drug possession.
