American visits Jack Brooks Regional Airport

Posted: Updated:

Flights to and from Dallas could be available for Southeast Texans by February.

Representatives from American Airlines visited the Jack Brooks Regional Airport Wednesday afternoon to tour the grounds with county officials.

American hopes to establish air service by February 14th if a deal can be made with Jefferson County.

American Airlines is looking for $1.5 million in guaranteed revenue before moving forward with a deal to add service to and from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

The revenue would come from public entities and corporations that agree to contribute. The revenue acts as collateral so the airline can break even if not profit from air service.

If the airline decides to continue service after its first two years, it would operate on it's own without a guaranteed revenue.

Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick says county officials will be meeting with businesses about contributing to a possible deal. Meetings with the airline will be ongoing.
