A Department of Public Safety spokesperson tells 12News HD, Timothy Owens, 38, of Beaumont, lost his life in an accident on State Highway 62 Friday morning.

Investigators say the accident happened around 5 a.m. on Highway 62 about a mile north of Highway 12.

A statement issued by the DPS says the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet truck was traveling south on Highway 62 and veered into the northbound lane, striking a 2003 Chrysler passenger vehicle.   The driver of the Chrysler, 38-year-old Timothy Owens, of Beaumont, was killed in the head-on collision.

Owens was pronounced dead at the scene by a Justice of the Peace.

The driver of the Chevrolet truck is identified as Robert Manning, 28, of Orange.  He was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth by medical helicopter.  Troopers say he is currently listed in critical condition.

The roadway was shut down while first responders worked the accident.  Highway 62 reopened shortly after 8 a.m.

12 News HD spoke to the victims mother who says a mother should never have to bury her son.

Shirley Owens says Timothy was a former marine who loved bowling and was a member of a local bowling league. With tears streaming down her face, she said her son never gave her any trouble growing up. "He was never in trouble. He didn't drink. He didn't smoke. He didn't do any of those things" she said.

"Every time he saw me, he told me he loved me. I'm going to miss his kisses," she went on to say as she cried.

Owens has two other siblings who live in Beaumont and a 15-year-old daughter who lives in California.

His mother says her faith will bring her through this tough time. "Anything that happened is God's decision" she said.
