Beaumont police identify suspects in Thursday shooting
Beaumont Police have three people in custody following an incident in which shots were fired at officers as they tried to execute a narcotics search warrant Thursday morning.
Early Thursday police arrested Joshua Harrison, 30, on drug charges. He was arrested at a home located near Magnolia and East Lucas. Following his arrest, officers went to a second location to serve a warrant as part of the same investigation.
At 9:16 a.m. officers arrived at the second location, a home in the 1900 block of Ives Street in north Beaumont. Before officers entered the home, shots were fired at them from inside the home.
Officers say David Buck, 39, and Edward Charles Crathin, 34, ran out of the house. Buck was quickly arrested on the lawn of a neighboring house. Crathin made it to a home on Elder Street where police say he hid inside the attic. Officers found him within minutes and took him into custody.
Members of the S.W.A.T. team were called to the house. Once they were in place, officers entered to make sure there were no others hiding in the home. No one was found.
Police say they found a handgun and an assault rifle inside the house on Ives Street. They also found cocaine.
Police originally said they would consider charging Crathin and Buck with attempted capital murder of a police officer. They later decided to charge the two with aggravated assault on a peace officer and evading arrest.
Crathin is also held on a non-related outstanding warrant for drug possession.
