Shelter opens after pipeline explosions

Posted: Updated:

A mandatory evacuation was put in place Saturday night following explosions at a Port Acres pipeline.  The evacuation is for all residents who live along West Port Arthur Road between Highway 73 to Highway 365.

The shelter is set up at the Department Club at 1924 Lakeshore Drive in Port Arthur.

12 News HD was at the shelter shortly after the evacuation was called and had a chance to talk to people who say they are frightened and don't know what to expect next.

There were a handful of people at the shelter early Saturday evening.  Officials say more people are expected to arrive.
