Southland Conference Announces Fall Television Schedule

Southland Conference Announces Fall Television Schedule
Southland TV Network to televise 11 football games, two conference tournament championship matches

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Television Network announced its fall schedule Wednesday and will televise 11 live football games and the championship matches of the conference soccer and volleyball tournaments.

All games will be carried on more than 20 affiliates across the regional network, including stations in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma, increasing the network's reach to more than 11.2 million households.

"The Southland Conference is proud to announce its fifth year of programming with another solid broadcast schedule and a great group of affiliates," Southland Conference Commissioner Tom Burnett said. "There are loyal stations that have been with us from day one, plus new stations that will be with us entering the 2012 season. I believe their viewers will see a great product, not only on the field of play from our student-athletes, but in high-quality, award-winning production of the network."

The network will open its broadcast schedule Sept. 22, when a pair of playoff teams from last season square off on the unique purple-and-gray striped turf in Conway, Ark. The matchup between national finalist Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas kicks off at 3 p.m.

The following week, the network heads to Beaumont, Texas for the first of at least two trips to Provost Umphrey Stadium, as LAMAR plays host to Southeastern Louisiana Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.

"The Battle of the Piney Woods" between Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin, which will be played Oct. 6 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, will be televised by the network for the third consecutive year. The Bearkats-Lumberjacks rivalry game will kickoff at 3 p.m., as will an Oct. 13 game between Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana, plus the Oct. 20 battle between Nicholls State and Stephen F. Austin.

The next two weeks feature the first doubleheaders in the history of the Southland Television Network. Coverage on Oct. 27 begins at 3 p.m. when Sam Houston State makes the short trip to LAMAR, followed by a 7 p.m. game between Stephen F. Austin and McNeese State on homecoming night in Lake Charles, La. Then, Nov. 3, the Cowboys travel to Nicholls State for a 3 p.m. game, which will lead into a 7 p.m. matchup of Northwestern State and Central Arkansas.

The final two regular-season Saturdays have been designated for "wild card" broadcasts, allowing the network to air the best possible games as the conference race shapes up. The Nov. 10 game will be one of three possible matchups: Nicholls State at Lamar, Sam Houston State at Northwestern State or Stephen F. Austin at Southeastern Louisiana.

The Nov. 17 contest will feature either Lamar at McNeese State or Northwestern State at Stephen F. Austin in the annual "Battle for Chief Caddo." Both wild card games will begin at 3 p.m.

The network will also televise the championship matches of the Southland Conference soccer and volleyball tournaments as part of its fall broadcast schedule. The soccer championship is Sunday, Nov. 4, while the volleyball championship follows on Sunday, Nov. 18.
