Posted: Updated:

Today marks the one year anniversary of the death of Beaumont police officer Bryan Hebert killed in the line of duty.

Officer Hebert's family, close friends and Beaumont police officers gathered at his gravesite.
To honor his memory with a balloon release at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches.

Officer Hebert was killed in the line of duty July 8th 2011, after police say his patrol car was intentionally struck by John Wesly Nero who was fleeing police.
Officer Hebert died from his injuries at Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth.

Officer Hebert had stopped his patrol car at the intersection of Dowlen Road and Ivanhoe Lane and was removing a reflective vest and spike strips from his trunk. Police say Nero aimed his suv directly at Officer Hebert's patrol car.
The collision knocked the patrol car into Officer Hebert, who was still standing behind it.
Officer Hebert had served with the Beaumont Police Department for 10 years.
