Beaumont ISD superintendent to retire early

Posted: Updated:

In a unanimous decisions, Beaumont ISD trustees agreed to allow Superintendent Dr. Carroll Thomas to retire four months earlier than originally planned.

Dr. Thomas agreed to a buyout of his contract for $156,456. His last day will be August 31st.

Board President Woodrow Reece says he was surprised that Dr. Thomas agreed to the buyout but it is a win-win situation for both parties.

President Reece estimates that the district will save somewhere between $48k to $50k from travel and accumulated leave that they will no longer have to pay Dr. Thomas. Reece says final numbers won't be available for a few days.

Reece says Superintendent Elect Dr. Timothy Chargois will likely take over for Dr. Thomas the day immediately following his retirement.
