The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the name of a woman who was killed in an accident in north Orange County Tuesday afternoon.
DPS Trooper Chuck Havard tells 12News HD, Amanda Lee Guelker, 19, of Buna, lost her life in an accident that was reported just before around 3:30 p.m. The accident happened on State Highway 62 at old Highway 62. This is just north of Highway 12.
Trooper Havard says it appears Guelker was driving her Ford Mustang north on Highway 62 when a truck in front of her slowed to make a turn onto Old Highway 62. Guelker lost control of her car as she tried to avoid hitting the back of the truck. Her Mustang struck the truck.
Although troopers on the scene said the car was heading north, witnesses who have talked to 12News HD, including Robert Davidson, say the car was heading south when the accident happened.
Guelker was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, identified as Ronnie Curtice, 44, of Port Arthur, was taken to Baptist Hospital in Orange.
Both vehicles have major damage.
The McLewis and Mauriceville volunteer fire departments assisted the DPS in working the accident scene.
