Gunner already serving

Posted: Updated:

After more than four months of anticipation Gunner the diabetic alert service dog or "guardian angel" is finally here.

Three year old Racer McLeod's parents thought they had his Type 1 Diabetes under control until he had his first seizure in November. Just after that Racer's dad put out a video on YouTube asking for help raising money for Gunner and got an overwhelming response.

Two Kountze boys who also suffer from Type 1 Diabetes saw the video and sold t-shirts to raise money for the dog. Then there was the large link sale fundraiser in Nederland where people showed up in droves with cash in hand.

Gunner's nose is trained so well he can tell when Racer's blood sugar is high or low and how to get help. Relief not just now but for many years to come.
