SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio police said street racing led to a crash that killed a man on the Southwest Side.

Police said the crash happened around 8 p.m. near Old Pearsall Road and Southwest Military.

Investigators said a truck and a car were racing when witnesses said the car bumped the truck and caused it to lose control.

The driver of the truck then smashed through the guardrail on the bridge that spans Leon Creek and fell more than 40 feet down an embankment into the creek, police said.

The driver of truck was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Police said the driver of the car and a passenger drove for about a mile and then fled, leaving the car at the scene.

As of 10 p.m., police were still searching for both people. Police said they could face charges.

The road was closed for several hours while crews cleared the scene.
