The driver of an 18-wheeler managed to escape injury when his truck exploded and burst into flames in Jasper County Friday morning.
People living near Highway 96 between Evadale and Buna reported hearing several loud explosions around 8:15 a.m., before the truck's cab became totally engulfed in flames.
The Jasper County Sheriff's Department reports that the truck's driver was able to get out of the cab before the truck caught fire and managed to escape injury.
Volunteer firefighters from Evadale and Buna were able to put out the fire fairly quickly.
Highway 96 was shut down in both northbound and southbound lanes while crews cleared the wreckage. The truck totally destroyed.
