A man who police say shot and killed a woman and wounded three others in front of the Jefferson County Courthouse Wednesday morning is held on bonds totaling $4,000,000.
Police say the shooter, Bartholomew Granger, 41, of Houston, was on trial the day of the shooting. Officers say two of the victims were witnesses in the trial.
The Jefferson County Courthouse will remain closed Thursday as authorities continue their investigation.
Seven Beaumont Police Officers and two Jefferson County Deputies who engaged Granger with gun fire and are currently on administrative leave. A police spokesperson says the officers were not injured in the incident.
U.S. Congressman Ted Poe issued the following statement:
"I am deeply saddened by the shooting in Beaumont today. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and the loved ones of the innocent bystanders who lost their lives, and I am praying for a speedy recovery for those who are wounded. As for the shooter, I hope that justice is swift and punishment is harsh."
