Beaumont police say a 21-year-old man is in jail after what was originally reported as an accidental shooting turned out to be more than the 911 caller said.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday officers were called to an apartment complex in the 3800 block of N. Major Drive. The caller said one person was accidentally shot.
Officers found a 29-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower left abdomen. Beaumont EMS was called and they took him to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth E.R. where he underwent surgery. Following surgery, the victim was listed in critical condition.
Officers arrested Isac Garcia, the 21-year-old brother of the victim. Investigators determined that Garcia used a handgun to shoot his brother and that alcohol was a factor in this assault. Patrol Officers located the handgun used and it was turned over to our Crime Scene Technicians.
