Map: Google.comThe Department of Public Safety has confirmed to 12news HD that a 1-year-old girl was killed in an accident Friday afternoon.
DPS Sgt. Chuck Havard says the accident happened at 2:45 p.m. on West Port Arthur Road just south of FM 3514.
The baby was a back-seat passenger in a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant that left the roadway for an unknown reason. The vehicle struck the concrete base of a utility pole. Investigators say the child was not in a safety seat and was thrown from the vehicle. She died about 2 hours later at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.
Sgt. Havard identified the child as Cayln Nunez. Sgt. Havard was not sure of the child's name spelling.
Two passengers from the vehicle were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. They are identified as Noe Estrada, 17, of Beaumont and Eva Rodriguez, 18, of Beaumont.
The driver of the car, Jessica Munoz, 18, of Beaumont is at the hospital. Investigators did not say what type of injuries she received. She is said to be in stable condition.
