Memorial service for Al Price

Southeast Texas is remembering a trailblazer.  A memorial service was held Saturday for former state representative Al Price.  The celebration of Price's life was held at the Mary and John Gray Library at Lamar University.

Born in Port Arthur, Price graduated from Beaumont's Hebert High School before attending Morehouse College in Atlanta.

After graduation, Price enlisted in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of captain.

In 1976, Price was elected to the Texas House of Representatives and served 11 terms.

Price passed away January 24th at 81 years old.

Current state representative Joe Deshotel knew Price since he was a child and says Price's influence will not soon be forgotten.

"He influenced me in a very positive manner so I do believe that he will have a legacy that will long survive here in Beaumont, Texas and throughout the state of Texas" said Texas State Rep. Joe DesHotel.

Price's two children spoke at the memorial.

He was also remembered by the American Legion and Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
