A man from Orange faces multiple charges after a SWAT team standoff Tuesday evening.  Police say the man held an adult and a child hostage for more than two hours.

Orange Police Department Captain Keith Longlois says officers were called to the 500 block of Knox Ave. around 7:40 p.m. where officers say Michael George Mitchell, 28, fired several shots with a handgun while holding another man and a ten-year-old child hostage.

Mitchell surrendered at about 9:50 p.m. and was placed under arrest.

Mitchell is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Officers have not yet said what started the standoff.

No one was injured.
