Beaumont expecting $18 million in Ike funds

Posted: Updated:

The City of Beaumont is taking suggestions on how it should spend $18 million it hopes to receive from the federal government.

The city held the first of two meetings Monday night.

It's applied for the Texas General Land Office for Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Fund made possible following Hurricane Ike.

Some of the projects under consideration are a new fire station at Helbig and Lucas and moving the City of Beaumont's Health Department from Washington Boulevard to College Street.

This was the first of two hearings held in City Council chambers to get input from the public.
