The death of an Orange County correctional facility inmate is under investigation by the Texas Rangers.

Forty-one year-old Robert Montano had been in the jail's infirmary since his arrest.

Acadian ambulance and the Orange Fire Department were dispatched early yesterday morning to attempt life-saving techniques on Montano, but they were unsuccessful.

An autopsy is planned.

Orange County sheriff's deputies arrested Montano on October 7 for public intoxication.

Deputies say he was under the influence of bath salts at that time.

On Wednesday October 12, 2011 at approximately 5:00AM, an inmate in the Orange County Correctional Facility currently housed in the Infirmary Unit had a medical emergency. Acadian Ambulance and the Orange Fire Department responded to the Correctional Facility to assist with the emergency.

The inmate had been housed in the infirmary since his arrival at the Facility on October 7, 2011 due to medical issues that he was having. The inmate has been identified as ROBERT MONTANO, a 41 year old Orange resident. Mr. Montano was arrested on October 7, 2011 by Orange County Deputies for Public Intoxication and it was determined he was under the influence of Bath Salts.

The Orange Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance performed life saving techniques on Mr. Montano but they were unsuccessful. Orange County Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn responded and pronounced Mr. Montano deceased. Mr. Montano was transported to the Jefferson County Morgue where an autopsy will be performed.

The Texas Rangers were contacted and are conducting the investigation.
