BISD school board trustee says district spokesperson should apologize

A day after five BISD school board candidates asked for the resignation of district spokesperson Jessie Haynes, school board trustee Tom Neild is telling 12 News HD that Haynes needs to issue a public apology before stepping down.

This afternoon, Neild said he is hurt and offended by comments Haynes made at a press conference last Friday.

He said Haynes suggested the media was racially biased against black school district employees and that the media neglected to report the criminal records of at least three school board candidates.

Neild says that Haynes is a district employee, therefore it is her job to represent the district and its taxpayers without taking sides.

He added that when Haynes is working for the district, she should only be making factual statements and not stating her own opinion.

"I clearly do not share the same feelings and attitudes that she has toward the media and toward these other candidates that are seeking these positions," Neild said.

12 News HD tried contacting all other members of the Beaumont School Board but our calls were not returned.

We've also been trying since yesterday to get a response from Jessie Haynes; she has yet to return our calls as well.
