Man arrested following double fatal accident in Jefferson County jail

Posted: Updated:

A man arrested following a double-fatal accident is in the Jefferson County Jail.  Ines Lagarda, 38, of Sour Lake, arrived at the jail just before 4 p.m. Monday.

DPS investigators say additional charges could be filed against Legarda as well as his unidentified friend in Winnie. He is already charged with manslaughter. His bond is set at $750,000.

Todd Holtzclaw recalled the final conversation that he had with his wife on Saturday evening.

"She took the baby to bed, and I stayed up and finished watching football," he said. "Then, I came in and told her goodnight and I live her."

"Alyssa was the greatest person I knew," he added. "She lived to take care of those kids."

At around 6 a.m. Sunday, Alyssa left her sour Lake home with her infant son, Jacob. The two were headed to her mother-in-law's home in Beaumont when investigators say Legarda crossed over the center line colliding with the side of their suv.

"She was going to drop him (Jacob) off and go to work," he said as he fought back tears. "After work, she was going to meet us for dinner and football."

"He killed a wonderful woman, and he murdered a beautiful baby boy," he added. "To be honest, Alyssa was so wonderful;she was such a great mother. It's going to take a lot of people to replace her."

Since 2003, Alyssa worked as a radiology technologist at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Her co-workers remember her as a great woman who always put her children first.

"She was a very hard worker and optimistic woman with a beautiful smile," said Janice Clark, who was Alyssa's friend and supervisor at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. " She would do anything for those three boys."

Lagarda left the scene but was arrested around 3 p.m. in Winnie.  He has been charged with Manslaughter but charges could be upgraded pending an investigation.

Bond for Lagarda is set at $750,000.

Alyssa Holtzclaw is survived by her husband and 2 small children.

Broussard's Mortuary is handling the funeral service.
