Ashly Elam is a lifelong resident of Southeast Texas and proud member of the 12 News team for over a decade. Starting at 19 as the stations news editor Elam worked his way up from a sideline reporter for the Blitz and eventually earned the job as Weekend Sports Anchor, a position he still holds today.
Born in Port Arthur, Ashly grew up in Groves and graduated from Port Neches-Groves high school were he was a member of the Indian baseball team. From there he would attend Lamar State College-Port Arthur and Lamar University while working full-time at KBMT..
In his time at Channel 12 Ashly has covered multiple high school state championships, NCAA baseball regionals, Major League Baseball's All-Stark Game, the NBA All-Star Game as well as the Astros, Texans and Rockets from time to time. But the coverage he enjoys the most is local sports, including high school football in which the Associated Press of Texas recognized him for his reporting.
Ashly has also helped in the news department when needed especially when hurricanes threaten the area.
When he is not covering sports, you can find him outdoors as much as possible including playing for the Blue Jays in the Southeast Texas Men's Baseball League.
You can catch Ashly reporting on the latest sports news weekends on KBMT-12 ABC and K-JAC your NBC.
