BEAUMONT - Amari Franklin, the 2016 22-6A Setter of the Year has helped lead the West Brook Lady Bruins volleyball team to their second consecutive playoff berth. A first in team history.
“We love it, it’s definitely been fun,” said Franklin. “Playing as a team, that helps a lot. And we all get along so that’s really great.”
According to Franklin she has been able to learn a lot form her coach and aunt, Talon Morgan, a former standout volleyball player at Kountze.
“Yeah it’s definitely stressful, but we make it work,” said Franklin. “It’s fun though, because she knows what she’s doing. So I have to listen. She played the same position as me so it’s good.”
For Morgan, while she has seen how good of a player Franklin is, she knows that she is an even better teammate.
“Oh she’s an excellent player, she knows the game really well,”said Morgan, who played college volleyball at Grambling State University. “But in the end, it’s a team sport and she knows how to rally her teammates around her and she can put up nice balls so they can hit them down really really good. So she is the perfect player to have on your team for leadership and when you want to go far.”
So what’s the secret to the McNeese commits success?
“I just come out and play, that’s the best answer I can give you,” said Franklin
Congratulations to Amari Franklin of the West Brook Bruins, our Wendy’s 12 Star Athlete of the Week.
