PNG with a tough road ahead

PNG has a tough road ahead

PORT NECHES - PNG baseball is going to play in the state tournament. That much we know. But who will they be playing?

The Indians will play the first game of the 5A baseball State Playoffs. That game is against the Region II champion, Frisco Wakeland Wolverines. The Wolverines come into this matchup with a 38-4-1 record.

The Wolverines are relatively new to the state playoffs, making the tournament only once before back in 2010. They lost to Corpus Christi Callallen in the semifinals.

The Wolverines are ranked number two in the state. So yet again the Indians will have to try and take down a higher ranked team to move on

if the Indians win, it won’t get any easier for them on Saturday. The tribe will either have to take on the defending State Champion Grapevine Mustangs or State Playoff main stay Corpus Christi Moody Trojans.

But if you have slain one giant it might seem easier to slay another.

The Indians will play 4 p.m. at Dell Diamond in Round Rock home of the Express.
