LAS VEGAS - Former Lamar Cardinal Mike James scored 32 points, including a 3-pointer with less than a minute to play that tied the game 98-98, but his Phoenix Suns lost in the NBA Summer League to Memphis 102-98.
James, trying to make the Suns as a free agent, had six turnovers including one with 8 seconds left and his team down by two.
James hit 11/16 shots including 3-6 from three point range and was 7-7 from the free throw line in scoring his 32 points. He also had 32 points in a loss to the Spurs in the NBA Summer League Championship game in 2015.
The Suns will play a consolation game on Friday, while the Grizzlies move onto the quarterfinals on Saturday.
