HOFF sounds off on UIL realignment for football

There is a proposal to split 5A into two divisions

Thanks to UIL realignment for football, Navasota is now in a district with Silsbee, Bridge City and LCM.    12 Sports Dave Hofferth noticed less than 200 fans made the trip from Navasota to Silsbee to watch their team play last Friday night.

Granted, Navasota was 1-5 going into the game, but they are a program that won state championships in 2012 and 2014.     With a two and a half hour trip, many Navasota fans chose to stay home.

The UIL is now proposing to split up Class 5A into two divisions before the start of the playoffs.  It will be voted on in January by the superintendents.

One possibility is that Nederland and PNG could wind up in separate districts for football.   Currently Nederland is about 225 students larger than PNG.

If the 5A districts are split by big school, small school, 22-5A would probably be merged with 21-5A, which includes Barbers HIll, Dayton  and Crosby, with the eight larger schools in one district and the other eight going to division two.
