Pink eye outbreak cancels football game

The Tarkington and Diboll football teams will not be meeting on the football field this week, and weather has nothing to do with it.

Tarkington ISD has canceled football games at the varsity and sub-varsity levels this week due to an outbreak of pink eye.

Details of the situation were released on Tarkington ISD's Facebook page.

"Due to the number of confirmed cases of pink eye (conjunctivitis) among Tarkington High School student athletes, all scheduled Tarkington Middle School and Tarkington High School football games for Thursday, September 22, and Friday, September 23, have been cancelled. This is a proactive decision taken by the administrators of both Tarkington and Diboll Independent School Districts for the safety of Tarkington and Diboll student athletes. The following letter was sent home with each Tarkington ISD student on the afternoon of September 21, 2016."

Diboll will travel to Cleveland instead Friday night.
