Workers brave cold weather

The City of Beaumont looked deserted with most of the area shut down due to icy conditions.  But there were some people who chose to stand outside in the freezing rain for hours.

If you happened to drive by in your heated car, you may have seen the Liberty Tax wavers braving the frigid weather dressed as The Statue of Liberty.

It may be a  job not a lot of people would be eager to take, but the wavers actually chose to be out in the freezing weather.   They're out there for about four hour shifts but take frequent coffee breaks and use heat packs to stay warm. The devoted workers only stop for very extreme weather conditions, such as lightening and wind.

The weather was not enough to keep them inside, but it was enough to cancel schools. Workers like Shane Peron at Fun City in Beaumont, braved the cold thinking they'd be busy.

"When school is out we normally have a good crowd," he said, "but today with the weather it's just like everyone decided to stay at home."

Most schools have announced they're canceled through Wednesday and as of now, a lot of the businesses on Dowlen Rd. plan to be open again.
