Woman wanted for violating probation in accidental shooting of a child case

12News has learned that a woman who received probation in the accidental shooting death of a child is wanted for violating her probation.  She is also wanted for her original charge of endangering a child.

Last October, Melissa Ann Ringhardt, 19, admitted to going to sleep with a loaded gun sitting out in the open, while she was babysitting John Allen Reed, 5.  Reed had shot himself to death with the gun.

Prosecutors said Ringhardt had admitted to smoking marijuana and passing out while babysitting Reed.

Ringhardt reached a plea agreement in the case and was sentenced to probation by the court.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Ringhardt.  Orange County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson said this is not a new Endangering a Child case.  This is a violation of the probation she received from the court for the original offense that happened last year.

The warrant was issued for her arrest on June 25, 2014 when she failed to follow the conditions of her probation.

Chief Hodgkinson said it is believed she could be in the Dallas, Texas area, but she has yet to be located.
