Woman remains critical after being crushed at drive-thru ATM after losing control of car

A Crystal Beach woman remains in critical condition Monday after a freak accident at a drive-thru ATM left her crushed by her own car.

A Galveston County Sheriff  Deputy Saturday was flagged down after a person found 45-year-old Nancy Harris pinned between her car door and the ATM located across Highway 87 from a grocery store in Crystal Beach.

The deputy says he found Harris unconscious and that it appears she was trying to make a transaction by leaning out the driver's side door. At some point, Harris' SUV moved forward and hit the building where the ATM is located.

Crystal Beach Fire and EMS arrived and crews were able to pull the front of the vehicle away from the building.

Harris was taken by a medical helicopter to UTMB-Galveston. Her family tells deputies she suffered a loss of oxygen to the brain and the next 48 hours should leave doctors with a better prognosis.

The Galveston County Sheriff's Office says it does not suspect foul play. Deputies were going to retrieve the video Monday to help figure out exactly what happened, but no word yet on what the video shows.
