Construction on the West Brook field house should be completed by the end of this year. But Monday, football players were able to move their equipment into the new facility.
Beaumont ISD trustees took their first tour of the field house along with some school administrators.
Like a school field trip, Trustees Gwen Ambrose, Zenobia Bush, and Terry Williams boarded a bus. And their destination of fun was the long awaited West Brook field house. Players were given the O. K. to start using the facility Monday.
"I heard a lot of ooh and ah's, it was really nice for the kids when they came in. It was neat to hear them and hear the excitement. It was like Christmas morning not only for players, but for coaches," Head Football Coach Kevin Flanigan said.
Trustees and administrators shared the enthusiasm as they toured the field house. They were first shown Varsity and J. V. locker rooms. Followed by a look at brand new equipment in the weight room. During the tour, coaches were working in just one of their brand new offices.
"New offices certainly make a difference in staff morale," Coach Flanigan said.
While the building is finally open just as practice starts for the year, some work is left to be done including the roof in the weight room which is covered in nails. But Coach Flanigan says none of that will get in the way of West Brook football.
"If you come into something like this, you take pride in what you do. They (players) come in here, see how nice it is, get excited and think hey someone cares about us,"
Pay applications for construction workers delayed construction in June and a lawsuit delayed it in March.
