Vidor church reaches out to community of West, Texas

Church is not just on Sundays at First Pentecostal in Vidor.

That's why dozens of church members have spent every day this week collecting and packing up items for the community of West in Central Texas.

Senior Minister Bruce Lockett says it's the church's calling to help the victims of disaster.

So Lockett told 12 News as soon as his church members and others in the Vidor community heard about the tragedy in West, they started asking him what were they going to do for a Texas town in need.

That's when an assembly took shape.  The goal was to send an eight truck convoy to West filled with food.

The first convoy heads out Saturday morning at 8, and more will follow in coming weeks.

If you would like to contribute to the relief convoy, take your donations to the First Pentecostal Church at 185 Camp Street in Vidor.

They will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Friday, April 26.

Items needed include:  walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, water, baby food and formula, Wet Ones. batteries, cleaning supplies, diapers. shaving cream, razors, sanitary items for men and women, canned food, MRE's, toothbrushes, tooth paste, medical supplies, zip lock bags, shampoo, deodorant and toilet paper.
