One person is dead following an accident on West Port Arthur Road Wednesday morning.
A Department of Public Safety spokesperson told 12News the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. on West Port Arthur Road near Hillebrandt Road.
DPS Trooper Stephanie Davis tells 12News a 2007 Mack truck was facing northbound on West Port Arthur Road waiting to make a left turn. The driver of a 2012 Chevrolet truck was traveling northbound on West Port Arthur Road and struck the rear of the Mack truck.
The driver of the Chevrolet truck, identified by DPS as Ronald Dwayne Thomas, 63, of Borger, Texas, was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth were he died from his injuries. Thomas was pronounced dead by Dr. Stafford.
The driver of the Mack truck, Elroy Huggins, of Beaumont, was not injured.
Trooper Davis said the investigation is still in the preliminary stage and it is unknown if Ronald Thomas was wearing a seatbelt.
Troopers continue to investigate this fatal crash.
A Beaumont Fire Department Dispatcher told 12News that firefighters with Beaumont Fire-Rescue assisted Jefferson County while deputies worked the scene. Firefighters remained on scene until around 8:45 a.m.
