A spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety has identified a woman killed in an accident Saturday. Trooper Stephanie Davis tells 12News the woman is Brittany Michelle Lewis, 20, of Vidor.
The accident happened shortly before 4 p.m. on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 near the old rest stop area between Vidor and Orange.
Lewis was pinned under a 1999 Ford Explorer when emergency crews arrived. She died before a medical helicopter arrived. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange County Precinct Three Justice of the Peace Judge Janice Menard.
There were four passengers in the vehicle, minors with ages ranging from 4 to 16. Their injuries are described as non life-threatening.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused Lewis to drive off of the pavement.
