Two Beaumont Independent School District trustees hosted a town hall meeting Monday evening in hopes of easing the minds of teachers.
Although very little is still known about how a takeover by the Texas Education Agency will affect teachers and students, trustees Mike Neil and Tom Neild tried to address some of the rumors that have been circulating.
The meeting was held Monday night at the R.C. Miller Library.
News cameras were not allowed inside to protect the identities of the teachers, some of whom feared retaliation from administrators if it was known they attended.
Many of the teachers' fears center on possible budget cuts given the district's weak financial status.
A prevalent rumor is that once the takeover happens, teachers will be forced to re-apply for their jobs. The trustees say there's no way of knowing what will happen.
About fifty teachers attended the forum, and Neil says they are a united front, committed to their profession.
