Trial set for teacher accused of assaulting student

A judge set a trial date for a Port Arthur teacher accused of assaulting a student.

Ruby Gunner's trial is scheduled for October 16.

She's been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case.  She's charged with injury to a child.

Gunner, who's been a teacher for 40 years, is accused of attacking and choking an 11-year-old student at Lee Elementary.

In an exclusive interview with 12News in May, Gunner told us she was acting in self-defense.

She's currently out of jail on a $50,000 bond.
