Tipster recognizes wanted fugitive on, leads authorities to arrest

A spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said a wanted fugitive is behind bars after a tipster saw his face on

Deputy Rod Carroll said Thursday that Davin Berry was arrested Thursday afternoon in Opelousas, LA by the Opelousas Police Department. Barry was wanted for aggravated robbery.

Carroll said Barry has a long criminal history with violent tendencies.  He said Berry stole a vehicle in October after he stabbed the driver of a car in the leg as the car was moving.

LinMarie Garsee told 12News that Berry targeted her when he was just 12 or 13 years old.  Garsee said Berry and two other boys vandalized one of her rental properties.  He was sent to juvenile detention and he would eventually end up in prison.

Garsee, who is a private investigator, kept tabs on Berry, while he was behind bars.  She even knew he had been let out in 2011.

Garsee was at peace knowing he was released in the Houston area, however on Wednesday she was shocked to learn he had returned to Beaumont.

Authorities said in October, Berry carjacked a man and stabbed him, and now Berry is a wanted man.

Jefferson County Deputy Rod Carroll said, "Criminals usually, when they get out of prison, return to the neighborhoods where they're from."

Carroll added, "This individual has no respect for anybody, society as a whole, he'll take what he wants and do what he wants."

Carroll says part of Berry's long criminal history includes assault on a peace officer.

Garsee has her guard up, but is not afraid.  She told us, "I don't ever want to hurt anybody, but I will protect myself, my home and my property."
