Three people were taken to the hospital following accident on Interstate 10 involving a vehicle going the wrong way in the westbound lanes.
The accident happened at 6:29 a.m. Thursday near mile marker 858 in Rose City.
DPS Trooper Stephanie Davis said the driver of a Chevrolet SUV was traveling eastbound in the westbound traffic lane. Once the driver realized she was traveling the wrong way, she attempted to make a u-turn across three lanes of traffic and was struck by a Chevrolet pick up that was traveling westbound.
The driver, Lolita Dunaway-Key, 81, of Florida, and her 80 year old passenger were taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pick up truck was also taken to St. Elizabeth with minor injuries.
This crash is still under investigation and there are no further details at this time.
All westbound lanes of the interstate were shut down while authorities worked to clean up the collision causing major delays in rush hour traffic.
