Three arrested, charged with helping murder suspect hide

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrested three suspects as part of a murder investigation Wednesday.

Hope Pennington, 27, of Groveton, Terrance Edwards, 33, of Crockett and Cedrick Edwards, 31, of Groveton are all relatives of murder suspect Cody Lewis. A sheriff's office spokesperson said all three are charged with hindering apprehension of a fugitive.

"All individuals assisted Cody Lewis in hiding from law enforcement and had the knowledge that Mr. Lewis was wanted on an outstanding warrant for murder. The three individuals arrested were cousins of Mr. Lewis'. Hope Pennington and Cedric Edwards were booked into Trinity County jail. Terrance Edwards was booked into the Houston County jail," says a statement issued by the sheriff's office.

On Saturday, April 5, 2014, a 911 dispatcher received a call of an, "unknown medical" condition on South China Road, east of Hwy 365. When emergency workers arrived they found a man, later identified as Kevin Moyer, 53, of Dallas, wrapped in a sheet. EMS realized he was dead and called the Sheriff's Office.

The investigation led to arrest warrants for Cody Lewis and two other men. The two others, Arthur Christopher Harmon, 21, and Yiannis Mihail, 31, were quickly arrested. Lewis was not found until April 17. A crime Stoppers tip led investigators to Pennington, Texas where he was taken into custody.

Deputy Rod Carroll said Hope Pennington, Terrance Edwards and Cedrick Edwards worked to help hide Lewis.
