Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas kicks off this weekend in Port Arthur.
Saturday night, 22 Krewes will join together to start the Mardi Gras season with "Beans and Jeans." The event took the place of "12th Night" last year to become the official start of Mardi Gras in Southeast Texas.
The Mardi Gras store in Port Arthur and Elliot's in Nederland have stocked the shelves with over a thousand boxes of beads with more being shipped. There are flashing hats and Mardi Gras ornaments.
A newer tradition is to keep your Christmas tree up and replace the holiday ornaments with Mardi Gras decorations.
You can also find fashionable Mardi Gras jewelry and t-shirts with this year's theme "Island Fever."
Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas will be held February 27 through March 2 on Procter Street in Port Arthur.
