12News has learned that an investigation into an incident involving a Beaumont Independent School District Police Department officer accused of breaking a student's arm has been turned over to the Texas Rangers.
The handover of the investigation was at the request of Jefferson County District Attorney Cory Crenshaw.
Cell phone video captured the March 7 incident at West Brook High School. The video shows Officer Stephen Rivers and another security officer trying to subdue a student who was involved in a fight. The student suffered a broken arm and his parent says the injury happened after the student had already been restrained.
12News has been told that after the Texas Rangers completes its investigation, the findings will be turned over to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for a grand jury to decide officer rivers fate.
Rivers is currently on unpaid leave.
