HOUSTON - The Houston Texans have named defensive coordinator Wade Phillips as the team's interim head coach.

The team announced their decision Wednesday morning.

"The Houston Texans announce that Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips will assume the role as interim head coach," wrote the team in a news release.

Phillips, a former head coach for the Dallas Cowboys, took over as head coach Sunday night after Gary Kubiak collapsed during halftime of the Texans-Colts game.

The Texans went on to lose the game 27-24 after leading the Colts 21-3 at the half.

Kubiak was released from the hospital on Tuesday after suffering a mini-stroke Sunday night.

The Texans play Sunday at Arizona.
